Last month the Tokyo Auto Salon gave the car world a taste of Japanese culture. New models from Subaru, Toyota and Honda made headlines, while ‘tuning’ shops brought out wild customs and race cars.

Every night during ‘Tokyo Car Week’ leading up to the big show, gangs of hooligans would take to the streets of Tokyo and drift through the twisty roads in the early hours of the morning, to avoid police detection. One observant citizen waited up all night on his balcony to get this viral video.

It may be technically illegal in Japan, but street drifters are a pretty common sight late at nigh, sliding elegantly around street corners, bringing the ‘Initial D‘ to life. Yes… it’s big in Japan.
