Every weekend I watch my son Daniel compete in Briggs Senior against 20, 30 or even 49 other racers. Whether he’s starting at the front or the back, even in heavy rains, I don’t worry. I’ve watched him. He knows how to drive, and avoid on-track incidents.

Even when he was little, he wanted to get behind the wheel. I wasn’t worried because the speeds were so low in the kid karts. The only danger was of him getting hooked on racing.

But seeing him behind the wheel of his mom’s car…it concerns me. He’s still a kid to me. Sure he’s got driving experience, but that’s on a race track.

Road vs Track. Very different things.
