This weekend was the last pre-season virtual training day for Demaras Racing at HIP Motorsports in Ajax, and this time, John Venditti, the Motorsports Director at HIP, had something special planned.

He loaded up the latest version of Assetto Corsa Competizione into the Force Dynamics CR-401 simulator. The track was Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Daniel Demaras drove the BMW M2 CS Racing car for 15 minutes of exploratory laps in the dry…then the rain came.

Racing in the rain is quite challenging, so it was good to have the first experience in the simulator instead of on the race track with walls and consequences. Spa and Mosport are both old-school tracks with high speed corners making it a good track for wet weather training. Daniel had to adjust when and how much braking force to apply, to be way more careful in the corners, and to gently squeeze the throttle. A tough challenge, but helped impart some very important skills.
