What is going on in the world? Last week it was the oldest driver ever busted by Italian police. Now here in Canada we’ve got a pensioner caught at more than double posted speed limit nailed with a ‘stunt driving’ charge!

A 65-year-old motorist has been slapped with a massive speeding ticket after being pulled over last week by South Simcoe Police. Allegedly, the senior speeder was caught on Canal Rd in Bradford (50 km north of Toronto) driving 104 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Anyone in Ontario caught exceeding the speed limit by more than 49 km/h automatically gets slapped with a ‘stunt driving’ charge, a 30-day license suspension and gets their vehicle impounded for 14 days. Its a good thing young drivers have such good role models to follow!

While the Subaru WRX is targeted at youths, an 80-year-old Aussie man was caught (allegedly) travelling 182 km/h in a 100 km/h zone in the town of Alma, an hour away from Adelaide. The old-timer was 82 km/h over the speed limit, which is not double the speed limit like the Canadian speed demon, bit it is the maximum speed capable in a first-generation Impreza WRX. The man was given an $1,800 fine and a 6-month license suspension.
a stunt driving charge! i wonder if we have such a designation in the us.
That never even occurred to me. I forgot that Toronto is not the centre of the universe.
.
Stunt driving is an old law on the books against burnouts, donuts, drifting, hamdbrake turns on public roads. Any outrageous driving behaviour.
.
A couple years ago, the law was changed to include speeding 50 kmh (31 mph) over.
.
Speeding and stunt driving are both dangerous, but are not the same thing…except in Ontario.
