Imagine being a 13 year old kid, and you dad has an orange Lamborghini parked in the garage. You’ve pretty much won the parental lottery. Not only born a rich kid, but to parents with style and taste. It is the parent’s obligation…their duty…to take the kid to a private track and let him drive the car.

See, it’s the parents of this 13-year-old Vancouver kid who wrecked his dad’s Arancio Xanto-coloured Lamborghini Huracan who are really to blame. It was just too much temptation.

On March 26, the young speed demon decided to take his father’s Lamborghini on a joy ride. The fact that it was dark out, and pouring rain, just didn’t deter the teenager. That would take common sense.

The Vancouver Police Department found the wrecked Huracan in a ditch along the Trans Canada Highway. The entire front bumper was torn off and the rear quarter panel destroyed. The engine cover was cranked open and the airbags deployed. There was significant property damage, but thankfully nobody was killed.

The driver abandoned the car and ran, but was found a short while later. He’s being charged with Speeding, Drive Without Due Care, Fail to Remain at the Scene of a Collision, and Driving with No License.

So let this be a lesson to us all, whether there’s a Lambo or a Lada in the driveway, your kid will be temped. He’ll wait until your asleep and then roll the car down the driveway (ask me how I know this). Just take your kid to a skid pad or a driver development track. Whatever. Stuff a pack of cigarettes under the gas pedal so he can’t floor it.

No kid can resist the temptation of a car in the driveway.

  1. The kid of ours that went for a joyride chose the car we inherited from grandpa, some kind of old person big sedan. We found out when the policeman knocked on our door. Thankfully, no accident and I don’t even think he got a ticket. Can’t imagine kid taking the lambo and totaling it.

    1. I was an angel as a teenager. Never did nothin bad to nobody. Definitely didn’t take anybody’s car when they slept, rolled it down the driveway, and started it up down the block.

Seems like that kid of yours has a strong self preservation instinct. If I were an unlicensed driver, I’d want as much Detroit steel protecting me as possible.

It’s such a common thing for a (North) American teen to want to drive the family car. We should give them every opportunity to do so in a safe environment.

I bet Mr. Lambo wishes he took his kid to the track now!
