There’s a handful of go-kart manufacturers in the world (the best are from Italy) but the vehicles are marketed under many different brand names. Case in point is Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver Carlos Sainz. In partnership with Tony Kart, Sainz just launched the CS55 Kart (his initials and race number) in patriotic Spanish flag colours.

Many open-wheel racers have their own brands, like Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc (Birel ART), fellow Spaniard Fernando Alonso (Kart Republic), baby-brother Lando Norris (OTK) and even Indy 500 winner Will Power (Kart Republic).

But the Sainz family one-ups all of them! Back home in Spain, there are already two Carlos Sainz Karting centres in the cities of Madrid and Las Rozas.

  1. HOW COOL. after checking all my joints for solidity yesterday, i looked up go-karting in my city. I’m sure any go karts we have are held together with tape and juicy fruit and are not nearly as beautiful as the carlando ones, but i intend to get out there and give it a try this summer.

    1. If I might make a suggestion…
      .
Look for indoor tracks with electric karts. For example, there’s a K1 Speed in Canton (and soon one in Columbus). While pricey, they’re clean, have no fumes, rubber walls to bounce the cars off, and even have a restaurant. It’s definitely fun for the whole fam.

Yes, they previously sponsored Demaras Racing, but they also have world class facilities.

      1. Thanks for the suggestion! There is a place not far from here that has electric carts. Alas, it is not K1 and canton is a little far, but this local place has karts that hold 2 so i could ride with kepler. He probably will never get a drivers license but might be able to manage a go kart. i would start with the 2-person to ease him into it. Anyway, it’s good to know the local facility has the things you recommend.

      2. I only mentioned K1 because they have nearly 100 locations, and I figured one might be a hop, skip and a jump away from your home.
        .
But any of the electric ones are all the same.
        .
As a person who has spent YEARS at go-kart tracks, being at a gas-powered indoor track is rough. You in hale so much exhaust that by the next morning, your voice is an octave lower. Very tough stuff.

The double karts are absolutely the right way to go. Get accustomed to the speed first. And keep in mind the electric ones have different speeds that can be set for different levels of driving ability.

      3. I looked at the list of K1 locations. There are a few that could be accessible during times we travel. for instance, indianapolis is a couple hours west and we often go through there on the way to our ultimate destination. that would be a fun “pit stop”
