This is the movie of the summer. It has everything moviegoers could want; comedy, romance, nostalgia and cool car stunts. And it’s the perfect movie to watch at the local drive-in theatre.

The ‘star-car’ is a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X painted in chocolate-brown and sand-gold of the original GMC truck used in ‘The Fall Guy‘ TV series.

It’s a movie within a movie with Emily Blunt as the director and Ryan Gosling as her stunt man. They’re remaking the crappy 1983 movie ‘Metal Storm‘ which was just a ‘Mad Max‘ ripoff. But that means cool, post-apocalyptic vehicles for characters Space Cowboy and his extra-terrestrial girlfriend Alianna to drive around the Australian desert in.

The stunt team on the movie even set a world record with a stunt vehicle barrel-rolling 8 1/2 times on a beach. That was an epic moment of vehicular acrobatics!

This movie takes ‘meta’ to another level. In that scene (above) an assistant helps Gosling get his helmet on. That’s actually Gosling’s stunt man! Through movie magic, we see Gosling roll the car 8 1/2 times, then give a big thumbs up. The assistant then runs to the totaled car to pull Gosling out the window and congratulate him on the incredible stunt. A stunt that he himself, the unknown stunt man, just performed.

Stick around for the post credit’s scene when original Fall Guy cast members Lee Majors and Heather Thomas make a cameo appearance. Totally worth it.

  1. You had me at Ryan Gosling. We established yesterday that drive-ins are a thing of the past here although there may be *one* still open in the metro area. Anyway, will definitely catch this one at some point. That’s amazing they got the truck to roll 8.5 times. What a stunt!

    1. Gosling is this generations Paul Newman. He can play dramatic, comedic, romantic and plenty of movies with cars/racing.
      .
Come on…this is the same guy who did ‘Drive’ and ‘Blade Runner’ so you know he’s good..
      .
And let’s not forget that ‘Ken’ is Canadian which gives him bonus points around here.

  2. Can’t wait to see this one. Gosling or no. Tom Cruise, though he may be shorter, would have done well in this film due to him always doing his own stunts. What do you think? 🤔

    1. How funny you say that, because the mention Tom Cruise in the movie.
      .
Gosling (as the stunt man) has to get his face scanned in the plot line, so better match him to the movie star he’s doubling for. He asks them to match him with Tom.Cruise.
      .
Gosling is stunt man for Tom Ryder, world famous movie star. Tom Ryder … like Tom Cruise but… not.

  3. Not a lot of people like Tom, because of his Scientology point of view and I don’t agree with them either, but you’ve got to give the man credit for all he’s accomplished.

    1. I thought Scienthology was a double rrcord he was workingbon. Jeesh, what do I care about his beliefs! The man jumps out of airplanes and stuff. Even if he was a satanist I could care less.
      .
I give him plenty of credit. The last true movie star.

      1. Scientology is some weird religion. I don’t know what they do or believe. It’s all nada to me. 🤷🏼‍♀️😄

I wasn’t referring to YOU giving him credit, I meant people in general lol. Sorry for the miscommunication. You know I’ve got mad 🫶🏼 for you.

      2. Ha! Even if you did mean me I wouldn’t get it!
        .
I don’t care if Dave Chappelle is a Muslim or David Lee Roth is a Jew or David Letterman is a Christian. If these folks are in the entertainment industry and they ENTERTAIN us, that’s enough. I don’t care which god they pray to.
        .
I think Tom Cruise is still cool after all this time.

      3. I like Tom Cruise’s movies, myself. I never even knew he had a funny side until I watched
Tropic Thunder. That bit with him at the end of the movie had me crying with laughter.

    1. I appreciate your deep thinking about the movies you write about. We saw Fall Guy today and I loved every minute of it from beginning to end. My only small disappointment is that the soundtrack does not contain any of the non-instrumental pieces from the movie except for a cover of I was made for lovin you.

      1. Thanks as always for your feedback. Your kind words mean the world to me. It’s great to know someone is still appreciating my writing with all the shit I’m going through these days.

I loved “The Fall Guy” because of my personal connection to it. My grandfather loved seeing movies about stunt performers. So, this movie meant a lot to me.

      2. That connection is really special. My husband and I have enjoyed many movies together over the past 40 years and we love to quote lines from them. I am happy you had that experience with your grandfather. I barely knew my grandfathers and movies were not something I shared a mutual love of with my parents. Having a shared love with my husband and my kids is pretty
        special.
