The turn of the century was a weird time in the car business. Retro-inspired vehicles like the PT Cruiser and Mini Cooper were super-popular with the buying public. Even Subaru tried to get in on the action by grafting a big chrome grill and round lights onto the otherwise very modern-looking Impreza.

They called it the Subaru Casa Blanca.

The Subaru Casa Blanca was a JDM model sold from 1999 to 2000. It was a limited production, with only 5,000 vehicles ever being built. And as seems to be the case with limited edition Subaru cars, you had to win a lottery to get one. Not so popular with Japanese consumers, the Casa Blanca wasn’t around very long, but it is still one of the rarest, most obscure Subaru specials ever built.

You’ve got to give Subaru credit for coming up with something completely outrageous. And for this jazzy Japanese commercial!
