Our friends at Can-Jam Motorsports sent a car to the Tall Pines Rally in Bancroft, and asked if we wanted to check out the event, first-hand. We declined, and decided to watch the rally from a safe distance; at home!.

Rally looks just a little dangerous. Just take a look at the wreck Marie-France Desmarais (no relation to us) and Marc-Andre Brisebois got into. Their 2007 Subaru WRX STi rolled multiple times, but rally cars are built to take serious punishment, so both driver and co-driver escaped uninjured. The same cannot be said for their race car.

Running since 1971, the Rally of the Tall Pines is one the major events on the 2024 Canadian Rally Championship calendar. This year’s rally took place on November 22nd and 23rd in the Town of Bancroft, which welcomed the race for the 27th time in event history. It’s definitely the one closest to home. Although our friend Crazy Leo would not be competing this year, big names sceduled to compete included Antoine L’Estage and Max McRae, nephew of the late, great Colin McRae the1995 World Rally Champion

An experienced organizing committee and 200 dedicated volunteers made for a highlight event in the CRC series. After many miles and a few close calls, the podium finishers for the 2024 Rally of the Tall Pines are:!

🥇 Jean-Sébastien Besner & Yvan Joyal – Ford Fiesta R5
🥈 Max McRae & Cameron Fair – Peugeot 208 Rally4 (2WD)
🥉 Jonathan Drake & Ian Lantz – Subaru Impreza STi

    1. You mean that yellow one? It’s unbelievable that a 1973 Ford is still competing in this event. I think it might be an old-timer at the wheel.

And while it’s fast enough to race, he often finishes last, with the exception of the wrecked cars and mechanical failures. But he finishes the rally with the car in one piece (and has the guts to compete) which is still impressive.

      1. Exactly.

This driver is like Rocky at the end of the sixth film ‘Rocky Balboa’ when he leaves the ring after the final fight WITHOUT listening to the judges decision. Just getting in the ring was a victory.
