At the end of November, local club and Society.Takeover tried to organized a Christmas car meet at an empty train station. The police shut that down within an hour. This time Secret.Meets lived up to their name by keeping the location of their Christmas Car show quiet until just a few hours before start time.

At the foot of Woodbine Ave south of Lakeshore Blvd is Ashbridges Bay. The place is busy all summer with swimmers and boaters. But December in Toronto? The place was deserted. No pesky residents to complain about some God-fearing gearhead revving his engine a little.

At 8:00 pm, there were only four cars in the parking lot, and things were not looking good. But every couple minutes another Christmas Car could be seen approaching.

There was such a wide variety of vehicles decked out. There was a festive Camry, Jeep Rubicon, RAM pickup and a mint condition 2007 Subaru WRX STi. From the Demaras garage, the Christmas truck was the black GMC Sierra monster truck outlined in 2,000 LED lights and an oversized wreath.

By 10:00 pm the parking lot was packed. Some of the young hooligans really started causing a commotion by revving their engines until flames shot out the tailpipes or doing smoky burnouts as they left the area.

Sensing the event might soon get shut down, the event organizer sent his drone up to capture footage of the Christmas display.

The message went out over IG that the Christmas Cruise into downtown Toronto would begin rolling out at 10:30 pm, giving everyone enough time to make some last minute repairs to their lights, or throw a ratchet strap over their Christmas. The real fun was about to begin !

    1. I watched a couple of videos on YT and got some tips:
      .
      – Use LED lights with tiny bulbs. They don’t stick out far enough to scratch the paint.
      .
      – Use plenty of tape (every 2nd bulb) to keep the wires from moving around in the wind and potentially scratching the paint.
      .
      – Use plain old blue painters tape. It’s adhesive enough to stick to the surface, is water resistant, but can be easily removed without damaging the paint.
      .
It took hours to apply that stuff, even with help, and yes I’m dreading having to remove it after Epiphany but who cares… it’s worth it. People stop me in parking lots and take pictures. Lots of fun, spreads joy.

      1. Yes. And as a car guy in Canada, it’s hard to find ways to feed the addiction in the winter.

Yesterday I was at the liquor store buying a case of wine for a racing sponsor. I waited in the parking lot while Daniel went in. This little white haired lady walked up to my truck waving her arms. She was just ecstatic about it! She took pictures of it, I took pictures of her next to it… it was so sweet and hade me feel happy inside.

      2. Quite! And I saw online that Christmas Cat Meet 2 is scheduled for this Saturday. I think I’m going to have to put a Christmas Tree in the bed of the truck… fully lit and decorated.

      3. Oh my goodness that is such a creative idea. You are a VERY positive influence! You’re not saying go out and commit crimes… but if you’re getting stopped by the cops …record those Grinches!

I love it. Merry Christmas Susan!
