You’ve got to feel bad for Julianna Balsamo of CTV Barrie. She got stuck with such a crappy writing assignment. An article warning motorists that doing donuts at the Dollar Store parking lot can land you in jail!

Spinning donuts and doing burnouts in snow-covered parking lots may look harmless or fun to some drivers, but police are warning it can lead to serious consequences. Provincial police issued a reminder over the weekend stating that stunt driving laws apply everywhere, not just on public roads. That includes parking lots and private property, even when they are icy or covered in snow.

Authorities say engaging in stunts such as donuts or burnouts puts pedestrians, other motorists, and nearby property at risk. Officers note that winter conditions can make vehicles unpredictable, increasing the chance of collisions or injuries. Under Ontario law, stunt driving is a serious offence. Drivers can face a 14-day vehicle impound, a 30-day licence suspension, hefty fines, and in some cases, jail time.

Police also emphasize that stunt driving is an arrestable offence.

With winter weather already creating hazardous conditions and 40 cm on the way for some areas, officers are urging drivers to act responsibly and think about the safety of others.

Ontario has strict ‘stunt driving’ laws; speeding 50 km/h over the limit, or popping a wheelie on a motorbike, can have serious repercussions. But snowy parking lot donuts have been lumped in with F&F style street racing… and it just doesn’t make sense.

Just listen to the joy in the voices of these newscasters from Plano, Texas. There’s no danger to society. Just a driver having a little thrill before going to work. Do they really belong in the clink for this?
