With the Winter Olympics zooming along at full speed, one cannot help but ask themselves what patriotism means to them. Well, as any red-blooded Canadian will tell you, the definition of patriotism to a Canadian is beating those Americans.
Living next to a larger, more populous country means we are inundated with their movies, music and culture. Everything local is just so ‘provincial’. It can give the heartiest Canadian an inferiority complex!
This week, the bobsledding events are taking place at the Milano-Cortina Olympics. A speed test to the bottom of a frozen track, the strongest pushers and smoothest drivers will dominate. But those Americans, they’re always looking for some kind of advantage.
Not accusing them of cheating (heavens, no) just pointing out that the US sleds are built by Honda of America, in the most sophisticated wind tunnels in the land. It’ll be hard to miss the ‘Acura’ branding on their sleds.
What will the Canadian team be sliding on? Did the Ski-Doo company of Valcourt, Quebec, bring their extensive experience to this winter sport? No. The Canadians will be driving 2018 sleds purchased used from the German team. That is shameful. It would just be so poetic of the underdog Canadians, raised in the snow and cold, were to take their inferior equipment and beat the behemoth American team. That would show them!
As an American I love the fight between two teams lol Damn did I hate those Montreal Canadians back in the 70’s 🙂 Toronto Blue Jays and Sox play nice together 🙂
What? Is our bobsled a 2018 model? The same one we bought second-hand from the Germans? I thought that in every Olympic game, we would have a brand-new one.
You would think the Canadians could do better than second-hand Deutsche bobsleds.
The Olympics are supposed to be about physical prowess and excellence. But the modern Olympics seem to be about what advantage can we eek out with technology and money.
Why not put every team in the same sled? Then it’s about the athletes, not the hardware.
