In this age of disposable goods and subscriptions services, I’m proud to daily-drive my 1992 Subaru SVX. It’s the oldest thing I own that I use every day. At nearly 34-years-old, the SVX has far surpassed the 10-12 year mark that modern cars are expected to last. This car owes me nothing, and I don’t owe a penny on it either.

The SVX never sold well back in the day, and there’s little to no demand for it in the market today. There’s a small ‘cult following’ amongst owners, but certainly no need to keep the car original to maintain its value. So if I felt like scrapping the original springs and struts/shocks to install air-suspension like a lowrider, no harm.
Adding LED lights under the car isn’t even a performance modification; it just looks cool. And anyone who thinks underglow is juvenile, I laugh at you. It’s the coolest! And I’ve been waiting for this mod to come back in fashion since I was 18-years-old and I’m not missing out on it this time!

When the SVX was released, I was only 18-years-old and there was no way I could afford a $36,750 car. And those are 1992 dollars; that like $50K in today’s money!.
A very expensive car, designed to be Subaru’s version of the Jaguar XJ-S or Mercedes 500 SEC. But Subaru just didn’t have the marquee or cachet of the European brands, so the car was considered a commercial failure.

Only 942 examples of the Subaru SVX were sold in Canada from ’92 to ’97 and most have been wrecked, scrapped or just plain rusted out. Estimates put the remaining number of SVX’s on Canadian roads today at less than 50. Maybe this dark teal ’92 with air suspension and now underglow is the only one of its kind.

Big thanks to Johnny at Wired_Ridez north of Toronto for the super clean install, and one-day turnaround. Met these guys at the Scarborough Meets pop-up meet at Global Kingdom Ministries a couple weeks ago.

Wow! Your car looks cool!
Thanks! It’s looking more and more like something an 18 year old kid would drive in 1992! But we’re all just big kids aren’t we?
