Last week, Ferrari F1 driver Carlos Sainz was unable to compete in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix due to appendicitis. At the last moment, Ferrari junior driver Oliver ‘Ollie’ Bearman was pulled out of his Formula 2 race car and thrown into the deep end, replacing Sainz for the weekend. It was his very first Formula 1 Grand Prix. Rookie racer Bearman qualified P11 and brought the car home (in one piece) P7 earning six world championship points.
Is old man Lewis Hamilton really worth $100,000,000 to Ferrari when Bearman would do the same job for free? Maybe it’s time Formula 1 starts pruning has-been drivers like Hamilton (who hasn’t won a race in years) and give rising talents a chance.
Despite his years of experience, Hamilton only finished one position better than the rookie in his first F1 weekend; the big-wigs in Maranello must be asking themselves some serious questions.
Who is really worth $100M? That young guy is cute — let’s give him a chance.
Susan, I just can’t fathom a team paying a ‘has-been’ like Hamilton so much money. Its like Ferrari only cares about their stock price, and not their results on the track.
