This weekend, fan-favourite F1 driver Carlos Sainz won the Mexican GP. His rally-legend father Carlos Sr was there, and for the first time ever, Carlos’ mom was at a Grand Prix that he won! To make it even more just perfect, Carlos’ former McLaren teammate (and BFF ) Lando Norris shared the podium with him, giving us fans another CARLANDO moment of these two bros.

The moment was bitter-sweet though, as it’s possibly Carlos’ last as a driver for Scuderia Ferrari. Maybe even his last win ever in Formula 1. Despite Sainz (and teammate Leclerc) helping rebuild Ferrari into a championship contender, the team announced in February that the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad Lewis Hamilton would be Carlos’ replacement in 2025.

There’s no justice; Carlos is a top-tier driver being displaced because washed-up Hamilton makes the Ferrari stock price go up; he’s a well-known brand name. Not out of options, 30-year-old Sainz signed with Williams Racing for 2025, but they’re a team at the back of the grid trying to return to former glory.

Carlos Sainz is a driver held in high regard by his former teams. During the post-race photo, Zak Brown (CEO of McLaren and Carlos’ former boss) joined the Ferrari squad for their celebration. To exchange the favour, Carlos photobombed the McLaren team photo, to the laughter of his former team and especially his buddy Lando.

Interesting statistic: the last time a Ferrari driver won the Mexican GP was in 1990 with Alain Prost, who then joined Williams and won a World Championship only three years later. So things are looking good for Carlos in 2027.
